GODWIN EMEFIELE: FORMER CBN GOVERNOR FINALLY RELEASED ON BAIL BY COURT ORDER

In a dramatic turn of events, the potential re-arrest of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was put to rest on Wednesday evening. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) released him in compliance with a court order, bringing a temporary resolution to the legal saga surrounding him.

 

Emefiele was handed over to his lead counsel, Matthew Burkaa, who orchestrated his departure from the court premises in a convoy of three Toyota Prado jeeps following the day's proceedings.

 The Abuja High Court had specifically mandated three senior advocates of Nigeria to take custody of Emefiele and present him in court whenever the Federal Government sought to initiate criminal proceedings against him. The appointed legal representatives are Matthew Burkaa, Johnson Usman, and Magaji Ibrahim.

 

The final release of Emefiele transpired after the necessary documents were endorsed by Burkaa, acting as the lead counsel in this intricate legal affair. The senior lawyer expressed confidence in accepting the responsibility to produce Emefiele in court, emphasizing the former CBN governor's unblemished record of service to the nation in various capacities.

 

Daily Post reports that as Emefiele emerged from the court premises in a luxurious Prado jeep, his attempt to wave at the crowd was met with hostility. The onlookers, displaying a palpable sense of displeasure, refrained from responding positively to his gesture.

 

Burkaa, undeterred by the crowd's reaction, reiterated his stance that there is nothing to fear in presenting Emefiele in court.
