In a devastating incident, a staff member of Dangote Refinery, identified as Joseph Ameh, lost his life in a hit-and-run accident in the Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos state.

The tragic event unfolded as Ameh was walking along Golf Bustop on the Lekki Epe Expressway. A yet-to-be-identified driver struck him and callously fled the scene, leaving the victim in critical condition.

Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred around 7 pm, with the speeding private vehicle colliding with Ameh on the pedestrian side of the road. Despite the severity of the impact, the driver showed no remorse, swiftly turning his vehicle around and escaping at high speed.

Efforts by onlookers to apprehend the fleeing driver were in vain as he managed to evade the pursuing crowd. It was only when officers from Elemero Police Station arrived to clear the scene that they discovered Ameh's lifeless body, with his Dangote Cement staff ID card revealing his identity. Joseph Ameh was only 39 years old.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated, "The body was recovered bruised; however, it has been removed from the road and deposited at the Epe General Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation."

Moreover, authorities have initiated an investigation into the tragic incident. The family of the deceased has been contacted through a phone found on Ameh's body, and efforts are underway to capture the hit-and-run driver responsible for this heart-wrenching loss.
