Clean Sweep: Governor Hope Uzodimma Clinches Victory in Imo State Election

In a resounding victory, Governor Hope Uzodimma, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged triumphant in all 27 local government areas of Imo State in the November 11 governorship election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared Uzodimma the winner after he secured an impressive total of 540,308 votes across the state.

 

The collation of results, conducted by the state returning officer, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oye, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, confirmed Uzodimma's sweeping victory. The announcement followed an hour-long break to compute the final results and declare the winner.

 

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Samuel Anyanwu, trailed far behind, securing a total of 71,503 votes, while the Labour Party candidate, Athan Achonu, garnered 64,081 votes, landing in the third position. Other notable results include Tony Ejiogu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with 6,392 votes and Jack Ogunewe of the Action Alliance (AA) with 5,756 votes.

 

However, the election results faced immediate controversy as both the PDP and Labour Party called for a total cancellation, alleging collusion between security agents and INEC staff to facilitate rigging by APC members. The aftermath of this landslide victory is likely to be marked by legal and political challenges, adding an intriguing layer to the Imo State electoral landscape.
