In a recent turn of events, the Lagos State University, Ojo, has relieved Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko of his duties as the Dean of Student Affairs(DSA). This decision comes in the wake of a news report published by an online platform on Monday, exposing a certificate racketeering syndicate operating within the university.
The report disclosed the presence of a syndicate offering genuine Lagos State University certificates for sale, with prices ranging from N2 million to N3 million, depending on the technicality of the course. The revelation prompted swift action from the university administration, resulting in the removal of Prof. Olumoko.
Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science, has been appointed as the acting Dean of Student Affairs in the interim. A university source, preferring anonymity, confirmed the removal.
In another development, the Lagos State House of Assembly has announced its intention to summon key figures, including the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Akibu, and the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, along with other top staff members. The summons is in response to recent allegations of extortion and certificate racketeering leveled against the institution.
