The Plateau State Police Command exhibited an 80-year-old man, Peter Ashom, on Thursday, accusing him of attempting to sexually assault an eleven-year-old girl in Jos. In another case, Elijah Anthony and his mother were also paraded for allegedly kidnapping and killing a five-year-old boy, Dawon Pam, in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area. Additionally, two women, a daughter-in-law, and a mother-in-law, faced charges for possessing seven bags of cannabis in Bokkos LGA.

Commissioner of Police, Okoro Alawari, presented these suspects alongside 34 others involved in various crimes like culpable homicide and armed robbery. He emphasized the successful efforts of the Command in curbing the activities of criminal-minded individuals.

Regarding the case of Peter Ashom, Alawari explained that on October 9, 2023, the police received information about the 80-year-old man luring an eleven-year-old girl into his room. He attempted to exploit her under the guise of sending her on errands when she sold groundnuts. The threat of harm was used to silence the victim, and the case is still under investigation.

In the kidnapping and murder case of Dawon Pam, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit received a call on October 13, 2023, reporting the five-year-old as missing. A ransom demand of N5 million was made, and the kidnappers provided a phone number for communication. The police, led by SP Okala Ugbede, traced the culprits, arrested Elijah Anthony, and uncovered the tragic details. Anthony admitted to conspiring with an accomplice, aka Malic, in kidnapping the victim, collecting a ransom, and subsequently strangling the child. The body was dumped in a swampy area.

In the cannabis-related case, SWAT operatives raided the residence of Gabriel Dare in Kungul village, Bokkos, arresting Mary Gabriel and Briskilla Dare. The police found seven bags of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis and three dane guns. The investigation is ongoing.

Commissioner Alawari assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect in the kidnapping case and any other accomplice involved in these crimes. The 39 suspects presented were all arrested in October as part of the police's commitment to maintaining law and order in Plateau State.
