Once again, the world witnesses the triumphant return of Danielle Williams as a world champion. The unexpected victory emerged from the inside lane, as the Jamaican athlete secured her title in the women's 100m hurdles final at the 2023 World Athletics Championships held in Budapest on a momentous Thursday, the 24th of August. This achievement comes eight years after her previous world victory in Beijing back in 2015.

The scene was nothing short of dramatic – even the television cameras seemed momentarily doubtful to acknowledge Williams as the frontrunner. Instead, the focus remained on Puerto Rican sensation Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, the Olympic Gold Medalist in the 100m hurdles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

However, as Williams's remarkable timing of 12.43 seconds was officially confirmed, surpassing Camacho-Quinn by a mere 0.01 seconds, the waves of celebration echoed through the stadium. Jasmine Camacho-Quinn was placed 2nd by the timer.

The eruption of cheers was a testimony to the pride of Jamaica and the excitement of a double world champion, who not only clinched her personal victory but also secured her country's first gold medal in Budapest.

The competition saw American Keni Harrison, once a world record holder, secure third place with a timing of 12.46 seconds. Tobi Amusan from Nigeria, the reigning 2022 world Athletics champion, secured the sixth position in the challenging race.

In the wake of this incredible feat, Williams herself was surprised by her accomplishment. "I still don't believe I won against such a stellar field," she confessed after the race.

Throughout the year, Williams had been facing formidable opponents who continually outpaced her. Yet, her unwavering confidence in her training and abilities propelled her to persevere and believe in her potential.

Reflecting on her journey, Williams shared, "When I won in 2015 it was unbelievable. But this took a lot of hard work, a lot of years of toil and injuries, and losing my confidence and battling to get back to this stage. It's awesome, Jamaica is a proud country and we love to win. I love to win. I came out here knowing I could win," she declared.

Camacho-Quinn, on her own part, demonstrated sportsmanship in acknowledging the challenges and triumphs of the journey. refering to Danielle's victory she said "We train against each other, we know what we're up against. It's motivation to go out again and grind," she remarked.

Her feelings echoed with the spirit of celebration and friendship, as she concluded, "I'm very happy for Danielle."
